Poppies
To know Flavor Paper is to know that our flowers flourish to a different beat. Our taste tends to run a wee wilder; rather than seeking out the rose we take to the thorns. Natalie Gwen Frank’s Poppies is a prime example of how we like our garden to grow…lush, lusty, and as the Brooklyn based multimedia artist notes, “like an erotic explosion.” Nailed it! Created from chalk pastel and gouache, this landscape is one of only a handful that Natalie has drawn without figures – a central ingredient in her body of work, which explores contemporary discourse on feminism and sexuality. And, it was impressively (and originally) completed in one sitting for an extraordinary exhibit at the Fort Worth Modern entitled, Women Painting Women. The tremendous texture, richness of color and feel-good vibes sprouting from this flavorful field make it anything but a wallflower.
