Another of Warhol’s homages to the fallen actress Marilyn Monroe, Marilyn’s Lips features just her evocative mouth in a seemingly endless field with imperfect repetition. The backgrounds for all colorways except Gold contain fades that add some movement and intrigue to the pattern. Beige and Pink contain brushstrokes throughout, which were lifted directly from one of Andy’s Mao paintings; Gray also has a color fade within the lips themselves. Please note that unlike its linear counterparts, Gold is printed on a light reflective gold Mylar and styled in a seductive checkerboard fashion.
“Marilyn’s lips weren’t kissable, but they were photographable.”
