New Orleans Toile: Backstreets

Illustrator and lifestyle entrepreneur Alexa Pulitzer's New Orleans Toile: Backstreets is a tribute to the vibrant soul and culture of the Big Easy. This unique city is built upon contradictions, such as beauty and decay, that are celebrated equally. From the historical and contemporary sounds that emanate from the gloriously atrophied Preservation Hall and the original Pimm's Cup still served at the Napoleon House, New Orleans stands the test of time. Jazz funerals followed by second line parades and Mardi Gras' Black Masking Indians, Skull and Bones Gangs, and the Zulu parade showcase deep traditions within the culture. The Lucky Dog cart parked in front of the St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter is a perfect example of the contrasts of the City That Care Forgot.

Our Patina colorway is a tribute to the beautiful, seasoned aesthetics of New Orleans. The atmospheric blue green copper patina tea-stained background rests gently behind the light gray linework for a softly weathered look.

As a teen, Alexa Pulitzer accompanied her father on design and buying trips to Lake Como, Italy, for her family’s companies. After creating a collection of postcards to thank her Italian employers, Alexa was urged to establish her renowned stationery company. Alexa was selected to design the logo for New Orleans’ 300th Anniversary in 2018 and serves as a goodwill ambassador to the city of New Orleans, where she forever incorporates her roots of classic Italian aesthetic with her hometown joie de vivre and playful sophistication into her artistry and daily life.
