Andy Warhol's fascination with Marilyn Monroe's fame, glamour, and tragic death began in the early 1960s. He immortalized her likeness, using a cropped film still from the 1953 movie Niagara, creating Marilyn, a powerful, instantly recognizable icon of both Pop Art and his own body of work. Created between 1979 and 1986, the Reversal Series was executed at the height of Warhol's career. Marilyn (Reversal) is part of this innovative series, in which Warhol visually re-interpreted his earlier paintings by reversing the original images, resulting in a striking new presentation. Our handscreened Marilyn Monoprint wallpaper features this iconic image in repeat and the colorway determines if it reads as a Marilyn or Marilyn (Reversal).
The Diamond Dust Hot Pink colorway features a hand painted monoprint, which is always unique, in vermillion and transparent pink with sprays and accents in DayGlo pink, clear, and orange. The background is a silver diamond dust printed over a chrome Mylar substrate, which is only revealed where clear ink is used in the monoprint.
