Andy Warhol continually reinvented his image, both as an artist and a public icon, and he knew the importance of documenting his life well before the internet age. From photo booth self-portraits in the early 1960s to his final series of fright wig self-portraits in 1986, Warhol featured himself as the subject of his artwork. Today, Warhol’s personal image is as recognizable as it was during his lifetime. Selfie contains over 100 self-portraits taken by the original King of the Selfie, capturing the entire span of his career and his many personas, from a young, aspiring artist to his drag-wearing alter ego, Drella.
Flash is less of a colorway than a compilation, as it contains the many colors of Andy's personal existence, which features more black and white than the Day Glo colors of his pop paintings. The overall effect is a tame palette with pops of blue and red from his t-shirts.
Andy Warhol was a leading figure in the pop art movement of the 1960s and is considered one of the most important artists of the late 20th Century. The Andy Warhol x Flavor Paper Collection represents our interpretations of Warhol's work—some iconic and others handpicked from deep in the artist's archives—released in a globally exclusive partnership with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, which has been ongoing since 2013.
