Andy Warhol's fascination with Marilyn Monroe's fame, glamour, and tragic death began in the early 1960s. He immortalized her likeness, using a cropped film still from the 1953 movie Niagara, creating Marilyn, a powerful, instantly recognizable icon of both Pop Art and his own body of work. In 1962, Andy created a silkscreened diptych entitled Marilyn’s Lips, in which he isolated and repeated Marilyn’s lips 168 times over two colored canvases, painted in “lipstick and peroxide,” to reflect on fame. Our Marilyn’s Lips wallpaper is based upon this famous singular artwork.
The sultry Gold colorway features a checkerboard of fire red lips printed on a mirror finish gold Mylar substrate.
Andy Warhol was a leading figure in the pop art movement of the 1960s and is considered one of the most important artists of the late 20th Century. The Andy Warhol x Flavor Paper Collection represents our interpretations of Warhol's work—some iconic and others handpicked from deep in the artist's archives—released in a globally exclusive partnership with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, which has been ongoing since 2013.
