David Weeks’ Gorillion is a design featuring the many faces of Hanno the Wooden Gorilla, a toy that he created years ago. Hanno is based on the Greek voyager Hanno the navigator, the first to document the gorilla’s existence. “I find when you draw something over and over again, even if you try to repeat yourself, it constantly changes,” said Weeks. “The wallpaper [Gorillion] came directly from my sketch book, where I had covered several pages corner to corner with gorilla heads. My wife saw these pages and contacted Jon at Flavor Paper, who then finalized the pattern.”
The Graphite colorway features a dark gray, lightly metallic handscreened background that allows the gorilla outlines to showcase the matte silver Mylar substrate, creating a constantly evolving sea of adorable shimmery silverbacks.
David Weeks is a RISD-trained designer from Athens, GA, who now resides in NY. Best known for his award-winning lighting designs, David also designs furniture, household items, and toys. David taught design at Parsons School of Design and Yale University.
